Questions and Answers About Your Water

How can I tell if I have leaks in my home plumbing system?

To check for leaks in your home, first determine whether you're wasting water, then identify the source of the leak.  Look at your water bill to determine your water usage during a colder month, such as January or February. If your household has four members and your usage exceeds 12,000 gallons (45,400 liters) per month,  you probably have some seious leaks.

You can fix many leaks by replacing worn washers and gaskets, tightening and taping showerheads and replacing toilet flappers.

Some utilities will conduct a free water audit of your home or provide you with a printed survey to help you detect leaks and find ways to conserve water. Contact your utility for more information.
